Professional Body and Qualifications
My qualifications include:
BSc (Hons) Psychology, MSc Counselling Psychology (accredited by the British Psychological Society) and a Certificate in Humanistic Integrative Counselling (accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). BACP Certificate of Proficiency.
I have also attended numerous courses in specialist areas, including: Anxiety, Cognitive Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Depression, Health Anxiety, Mindfulness, Nutrition and Mental Health, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Personality Disorders and Schema Therapy.
I am an individual member of the following professional bodies and abide by their codes of ethics and am bound by their complaints procedures: the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the British Psychological Society (BPS) including its Division of Counselling Psychology.
I am a professionally qualified counsellor, with over 11 years experience, providing individual and couple counselling, including CBT, on a short-term and long-term basis in an oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Sessions take place in a caring and professional environment, which is sufficiently challenging to effect change. Working together we can help you gain better understanding of yourself, to overcome obstacles in your life, and reach your goals.
I work with people on a wide range of issues. My expertise lies in the areas of: anger management, relationship difficulties, depression, addictions, anxiety, low self-esteem, stress and sexuality.
There are a number of different approaches to counselling. I work primarily using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), which all have a strong evidence base. The quality of the therapeutic relationship contributes to a positive outcome in counselling, which is very important in my work.
I offer a non-judgemental approach, without discrimination on such grounds as sex, race, religion, class, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity.
